There's a tournament this weekend I wanted to travel to, but it seems unlikely I'll make it now with friends in tow. My good friend Jon guesstimated it would cost about $40 per person. So four people altogether would've ran about $160 bucks in gas for both ways? Wait, what the hell? How does that add up? I spent about $50 alone for my trip to Dallas, which is about equal distance...something's afoot here...
Sigh. I seriously need a car that's well-tuned and a little bit more reliable.
So Bakemonogatari 13 came out this week, and lo and behold the fansubbers were all over it. Not even a day after it's online stream, people had subtitles ready to go. Gotta love that dedication!
I still need to get back to work on that Sket Dance translation. Been putting it off for far too long since Tekken 6 came out...

PS3 load times (installed vs uninstalled) are pretty significant. Like 20 to 30 seconds significant. And the Xbox360 gets the better end of the stick too!
It's been about a month or so since the last tourney we had here, and once again another one is upon us. I'll be doing brackets and running everything PS3 related, so (crossfingers) hopefully everything runs smoothly. A lot of the guys who've been popping up around town are getting ready for this one, as it holds the potential to be the largest turnout we've had yet (something around 100 people are participating).
I'm pretty confident this will run well. Past experience is a beast of its own; without it, I'm not so sure I'd have the where-with-all to pull off something this large. It's definitely not EVO size, but for something local it's pretty huge.
Next week is shaping up to be one of the best weeks of this year. Tekken 6 comes out and Bakemonogatari gets streamed on the web! Can't ask for anything more in life!

I totally did not expect this big of an upset, but then again a lot of people are diehard fans of this show. Me, I didn't care too much for it, but all in all it's a better ender than say...the girls from Saki taking it.

Wow, in just the past few days alone a TON of movie announcements hit the web, ranging from the obvious to the totally unexpected. The big one of course is Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu (The Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi), which aired after their season finale. Trigun finally has a website with details on their movie, and Gantz is reported to have a live-action film coming sometime in 2011. Another remake of Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo is coming as well.
Along with Canaan and Higashi no Eden films, that's like...nine movies altogether! 2009 is certainly year of the anime movie, no doubt about it.
Speaking of films, I finally got to watch First Squad, and while it was unique and interesting (the entire film is in Russian, as opposed to Japanese) the action was something of a let down and the quality of the animation went kinda south after the first 30 minutes. I've never seen Band of Brothers, but many people compared it to that. It was weird watching it go from animation to live-action multiple times during the movie.
Anyways, on to the links!

So earlier this week a new Fate/Stay Night game was announced for the PSP with pictures and gameplay screens galore. Unfortunately it's not Takeuchi Takashi-san who's in charge of the art direction. I don't know who is, but let's just say their approach toward the series is a bit...interesting.
I'm probably thinking too deep about this. This is their first entry into the RPG world, so what do they do? They copy Persona, for crissakes. I can't even tell if they're trying for a dating sim approach too -- I mean, they created two completely original main characters (a boy and a girl) as high school students, so I'm not sure what to make of this.
Meh. I guess it doesn't hurt anyone if Saber's dress is see-through...

I've been playing the eternal snot out of this game. Ever heard of it? It was only the most well-received, well-to-do strategy RPG of 2008 you know. A media darling. Such a great game. It totally echoes of Final Fantasy Tactics, although the system isn't as deep or as comprehensive. (Tactics was such a great game; probably my favorite of all time).
At times it's frustrating to the point of tears. I can't tell you how many times I've struggled so long and hard within a hair's breath of completing a mission, only to be shot down by some random dude who ends off my leader in one turn. I swear the computer is toying with me at times.
Pretty good week for news! The Tokyo Game Show is underway as of this writing, so hopefully come Monday I'll have a full plate of interesting announcements to post up here. Check back then!

The internet is back up here, and mannnnn I can't seem to get off of the PS3. I think I'm addicted. Or past addicted. Or just really addicted. It's so fun, I can't seem to put the controller down and do something else like eat.
Lately I've been playing the snot out of Resident Evil 5. The online is amazing, to say the least. Even people from halfway across the globe still garner a very nice connection speed compared to like, oh...King of Fighters XII. Those connections lag the bejeezus out of me, and make it really frustrating to play, network update or not. Such a fun game tarnished by poor online play.
At any rate, my uncle spoke with me and wants me to enroll for a masters course in business administration in...Vietnam. As much as I'd like to go, the last time I visited the country kind of scarred me and I'm wary of heading back and staying for two years.
But it's not like I have much else going on at the moment...

Sooo...I have no internet all this week (and going on into next week to, it seems) so unfortunately I don't have any links to share. Sad face. On the flip side though, thank God I have that PS3 slim, because without it I'm pretty sure I would have went nuts from boredom. Not a moment too soon, either...
Sigh. I can't believe it though, seriously. After years of being used to the internet, to suddenly be cut off for a week is pretty...frustrating. I can't keep up with world news, gaming info, etc. Is this what it feels like to be...out of the loop!? Terrible -- this is a fate worse than dying!
Luckily I can kind of keep up with the world, just not on a schedule to my own convenience.
(By the way, the only reason I'm able to post this is because I'm leeching off a friend's internet, lol.)
I'm told it'll be back next week, so hopefully by then I'll be back to posting random stuff as usual. After how this week has been, I can't fathom how people would even dare consider unplugging from the world for days or even weeks at a time. Are they nuts!?

My amazon pre-ordered PS3 came in today, hurrah! It's so small and sleak -- it's great. Unfortunately I can't set up the internet on it yet because we're changing companies here, but hopefully come Tuesday I'll be able to play some games online.
